Daily Self-Care and Solitude

As our lives get busier and time is harder to juggle, the first thing to slide is usually our own self-care.

Even though I’m in a helping profession often reminding my clients with emails and text messages between sessions to “do something nice for yourself today”, I often need reminding myself!

I have a book called “The Wonders of Solitude” that is filled with inspiring reminders to nurture your soul amidst a demanding world.

It’s filled with insightful quotes from authors, actors and spiritual leaders to medical professionals, singers and comedians – all sharing their words of wisdom on the wonders of solitude.

Here’s a quote I read when opening it this morning:

Women Need Solitude

A common theme amongst many clients is coming to a stage in their lives and not knowing who they are.

Having tended to others and neglected themselves for many years, the person in the mirror has become a stranger and they haven’t a clue what they want or where they’re going in their lives.

Reclaiming your sense of self can be done by regularly taking time out to stay in touch and in tune with your true essence.

When we do, we have the ability to remain connected to our inner source whilst also giving the best version of ourselves to the ones we love and care for.

Throughout running my own business in the last 4 years I now realise how important it is to step away from it occasionally to focus on interests and activities that reinforce who I am and what makes me feel my best and most inspired.

When I take time out to do something for myself every day, no matter how small, it’s a little piece of private pleasure that honours and respects my most important relationship.

It could be something as simple as:

a walk first thing in the morning,
a meditation every evening,
pottering in the garden,
reading for 15 minutes at lunch,
gentle stretching before bed-time,
a hot bath with magnesium salts,
singing or dancing around the house for 10 minutes,
eating regular meals to ensure your energy and metabolism are digesting food and assimilating nutrients efficiently…

When I do these simple little things…

I feel more connected to myself and less concerned about daily challenges.

I create more energy and enthusiasm, and feel more in tune with who I am.

I feel more relaxed and focused, positive and charged up.

I feel more like me.

If YOU AREN’T regularly taking time out for daily self-care, start with creating a DAILY SELF-CARE list of ideas you’d like to start doing for yourself.

Put it somewhere visible and focus on doing at least one thing on that list every day!

What do YOU do for yourself every day?

Leave a comment and share your ideas. I’d LOVE to know what some of you are already doing and how it contributes to your day, as well as what you would LIKE to be doing for yourself but just can’t seem to make happen.
