What's Holding You Back?

Have you ever shown up and did something that you weren’t initially sure about – do I know enough, can I pull this off, will I be able to deliver – but then totally surprised yourself by how much fun you had, and how comfortably you took to it when you did?

That’s how I feel now after finally stepping up to the plate this year and teaching the yoga portion of the first half of my yoga and meditation classes.

I love teaching meditation – I love teaching, connecting and engaging with people in general. But I hadn’t realised just how much I would love teaching movement as well as stillness.

Yoga has been a part of my life for nearly 30 years (since I started dance), although not something I overtly shared or encouraged.

It was mine, just for me, and it complimented my meditation practice perfectly – besides releasing muscular tension and reducing old migraines.

This year I stepped up and took the helm of this popular weekly class all on my own.

My dear friend and fellow yogi, felt a calling back into a different space of employment. While our students and myself were extremely pleased and excited for her, we were all feeling sad at her loss.

The students particularly wondered, would their favourite self-care class continue in 2016?

I decided it would, because I love teaching mind-body tools for a mentally and physically, happier YOU.

Over the festive break I refreshed my yoga teaching memory, embarked upon a new kundalini and hatha yoga certification and started term one with gusto.

I’m pleased to say it’s paid off in many ways.

Before, I merely had to wait in the wings until entering mid-class to relaxed and ready students. With the gentle movement bringing them into their bodies, I simply focused on taking their relaxation further, guiding them deeper into their hearts via various meditation and breathing styles.

Meeting this personal challenge has been beneficial for me in many ways:

  • My mind is clearer and calmer, more focused and sharp.
  • My body feels stronger, leaner, lighter and pleasantly, more energised!
  • My soul is clearly more satisfied that I’m placing her centre stage more often.

I needn’t have been worried or resistant. All that was needed was to trust in myself and my knowledge and experience.

[Tweet “Trusting ourselves is all we ever need to embrace our fear, step up, dive in and try new things. “]

Now it’s your turn….

  • What is your soul crying out for?
  • What are you holding yourself back from doing?
  • What have you got your eye on that your self-talk is talking you out of?

Identifying your mental or emotional blocks is the first step in facing your fears of trying something new and stretching yourself with new challenges and knowledge.

Comment below and let me know – I’d love to read what your mental blocks are so I can make sure I address them in future blogs, articles and weekly emails.
