Uncover your desires for an authentic life

Uncover how to create an Authentic Life

What do you want?

Such a question may seem like an innocent enquiry, yet sadly we rarely ask ourselves. Life takes us in so many different directions that we often forget to course correct when we take a wrong turn.

When I ask my clients this simple question, I am often met with silence, tears or an invitation to finally let it all out.

The blank look on their faces often conveys their confusion: at the fact that someone is genuinely interested, or the realisation that they actually don’t know.

The fierce rush of tears and the bellowing exhale is a measure of their relief that finally they can tell someone, and speak up about how unhappy they desperately are.

Only a few new clients may arrive with a mental list of what they want, yet they are usually more in touch with the struggle and pain of what they don’t want in their lives.

So what do YOU want?

  • Do you want to lose weight, find a life partner, or change your career?
  • Do you want to be happy, leave a bad relationship, or empower yourself to positivity?

When was the last time you even thought about what you wanted?

Or gave yourself permission to want something other than what you have?

There’s a deep satisfaction in living an authentic life.

Instead of following in another’s footsteps, you are able to create your own path forward. In doing so, you become true to you, and start to listen to your heart whispers instead of the disapproving voices around you.

Daring to ask yourself what you want is a sacred invitation. You are acknowledging that you have wants, and that you have every right to listen to them.

When you sit with the question – What do I want? – you begin to allow your soul to awaken.

Stirrings of travel, new experiences, starting fresh or living truthful, all begin to dance around your consciousness.

Suddenly there is choice and direction, there is purpose and clarity.

Deep within us are desires of the heart, and when we open up the lock with a simple question of what we want, we allow our true soul needs to rise to the surface.

When we get honest with ourselves about what we really, truly want, we suddenly become visible – to ourselves and to the world. We are immediately vulnerable in the fragility of being human. Yet what we want becomes more real and daringly achievable.

We can begin to step into the light and follow our own truth. This lights the way for change and personal transformation.

Gradually there is hope that perhaps life can be different, that somewhere within our wants and needs, we can find those experiences that will satisfy us on a deeper level.

A life lived without fulfilment is merely a half-life that overshadows our potential growth and suffocates our desires.

If we don’t ask and answer this simple question – What do I want? – then what exactly are we doing here?
