Release Emotional Pain with This Simple Practice

A Simple Energy Practice to Release Emotional Pain

Ho’oponopono (pronounced “hoh-OH-pohno-pohno) is an ancient Hawaiian system of healing, problem solving and transformation.

In Hawaiian, Ho’oponopono means “to make right or to rectify an error.”

This may not necessarily be something literal that you have done. An “error” can also be a memory network of emotions, words, situations and behaviours that replay in your subconscious mind and feed your limiting beliefs.

  • Are you carrying around emotional pain that has turned into physical pain?
  • Do you feel heavy and weighed down by the burden of feelings?
  • Are you using food, alcohol or drugs to manage unpleasant memories or emotions?

Many people I work with are stuck in past pain and unable to move forward.

They swallow their words and suppress their emotions.
They’re wound up tight and in physical pain.

The emotional turmoil they’ve been holding onto is blocking them from happiness and being able to move on with their lives.

I use this traditional Hawaiian technique with certain clients who are living in the past and holding onto unnecessary pain.

If you’ve been carrying around guilt, blame, regret, anger or shame, perhaps practicing Ho’oponopono for healing and forgiveness is just what your mind, body and spirit need.

By using the four distinct, direct and cleansing phrases you can:

  • release pain and suffering,
  • heal past hurts, and
  • clear erroneous subconscious beliefs holding you back from true happiness.

This beautiful form of Hawaiian healing is one of the most direct and powerful ways to clear yourself of limiting beliefs. It cuts through conventional methods and goes straight to the source of the problem without the need for analysis.

I use this meditation alongside expressive journaling techniques for specific clients struggling to get unstuck. They have each been amazed at their individual results.

Ho’oponopono Meditation is such a simple yet powerful practice that anyone can do. All you need to do is keep clearing yourself with four deeply resonating phrases.

These phrases are often the most difficult for humans to express, and our very unwillingness to express them is why we block and internalize beliefs and negative emotions in our cells.

close up prayer

To Practice Ho’oponopono:

Sit or lay down comfortably, ensuring your spine is straight to protect your nervous system and open your airways.

Begin to focus on your breathing, simply observing the breath moving in and out of your body.

Breathe deep into your belly to increase oxygen intake, nourish your cells and organs with vital nutrients, pump lymph flow, and feed your brain.

Exhale slowly for the same count as you inhale.

After a few minutes of regulating your breath and slowing your thinking, bring to mind a person, belief, memory, or hurt that continues to stay with you and prevent your current happiness.

What keeps a hold on you about this? What prevents you from letting it go? Consider this problem for a few moments.

If emotions stir, allow their release and continue to breathe deeply and evenly for the same count in and out.

Begin to say the four phrases below in order. You may say them aloud or mentally:

I am sorry.

Please forgive me.

Thank you.

I love you.

Continue to slowly and purposefully repeat these phrases aloud or in your mind, breathing deeply into your stomach and exhaling slowly for the same count.

Allow any emotions or physical sensations to be experienced. When you allow yourself to go with the flow, painful emotions will feel acknowledged and heard, and no longer have any power or fear over you.

Breathe deeply. Repeat these powerful phrases until you feel calm, peaceful and centred.

Experiment with this extremely deep form of self-healing and allow emotions, regrets, fears and energy blockages to release and clear from your mind and body.

You will be amazed at the transformative power they have to heal!
