Healthy Chocolate Mousse | Dairy & Sugar Free, Vegan, Paleo

Chocolate Mousse Anyone?!

I do love a chocolate mousse that’s smooth, creamy, rich and easy to eat! I don’t like the feeling of a heavy, bloated, queasy and bilious tummy afterward though!

Our house has a variety of tastebuds, like most families do, which sometimes means a harder task in pleasing everyone. It becomes a challenge to create something that doesn’t contain the flavour or aroma of one particular food yet still provides the texture so that everyone will love it.

Even though bananas are a wonderful source of fibre, iron, potassium, B vitamins and tryptophan, Mr 12 is NOT a fan! So chocolate mousse made with fresh or frozen banana is not an option; he smells and tastes it straight away! (Is there banana in this?!)

Going back to an old Rawsome Chocolate Pie recipe gave me an idea for a very simple, quick and easy chocolate mousse that’s sugar free, dairy free, vegan, paleo and most importantly, banana free 😉

This is a very rich and decadent dessert that will absolutely satisfy your tastebuds, yet minimise the rise in blood sugar and insulin to keep your mood, energy, concentration and cravings stable.

Watch me show you how to make it here (the recipe is below!):

Decadent Raw Chocolate Mousse

Serves 2.

This recipe is best made in a high-powered blender, using your tamper stick to push down the corner edges to combine, unless you have a high-powered food processor that can whip the mixture very smooth. It’s also easier to scoop out!

If you decide to make a double mixture, 2 cups of coconut cream is roughly a 400ml can, and 10 medjool dates is adequate sweetness to combine (unless you like your mousse quite sweet!). The rest is simply double amounts.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup coconut cream
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1/3 cup raw cacao powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla powder
  • 6 pitted and soaked medjool dates
  • pinch of Himalayan salt (optional)

Method:

Blend all ingredients together in a high-speed blender, using the tamper stick to push down the sides. Once blended smooth and creamy, pour into serving bowl/s and place into the fridge to set for 20-30 minutes. Serve with strawberries, blueberries, nuts, seeds or coconut.

If using a food processer, add all ingredients except for the coconut cream and pulse lightly until combined. Add in the coconut cream and blend until smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides once or twice to unsure even blending. Set and serve as above!
