Do You Feel Safe in Your Body?

That weighty feeling

Who’s been on a “diet” before – lost weight, regained weight and done the whole thing over again?

I’ve tried numerous diets over the years and a few methods I made up myself.

But nothing ever truly worked until I learned to listen to my thoughts and understand what my beliefs and fears were saying to me unconsciously, continuing to trigger my fat storing hormones.

What’s the difference between losing weight and regaining, and losing weight and staying there?

It’s our emotional, mental and spiritual experience of whether we feel “safe” at a lower weight and comfortable enough to stay there.

When we lose weight, we often start to worry about whether we can keep it off. We sometimes give up half way through even though our weight is going down.

When our shape is changing into something that doesn’t “feel” or “appear” to be safe for us, often our subconscious mind (our mental programming) will connect with feelings of physical and energetic stress memories and experiences that remind or tell us we are not safe.

Our feelings and emotions are driven by these thoughts, and consequently create self-sabotaging behaviours to change our reality back to what we know is safe and comfortable i.e. we regain the weight to feel safe again.

Has this ever happened to you?

When I’ve lost weight in the past and started to look and feel different, it challenged my perception of who I thought I was.

Suddenly people were looking at me more, and offering their compliments and comments. I was in the spotlight with no desire to be there, and the mental and emotional pressure began to build up within my being.

Sometimes in my life I’ve felt so unsafe that my weight served as a protective layer – a barrier for my sensitive soul. Even though I was able to reach low weights, I would suddenly feel vulnerable and exposed with nothing to hide behind.

As the kilos dropped off and the more comments came my way, the attention and focus on my body increased and the more I felt unsafe.

Eventually this mental and emotional stress become overwhelming and too much for me. I unconsciously tried to protect myself by putting weight back on and recreating that protective layer between me and the unwanted attention.

My reality at that time was, it was emotionally safer being fat.

How does Stress affect our weight?

Stress is associated with nearly every degenerative disease known, but many people don’t realise the direct connection between stress and your waistline.

Stress can make you fat. It’s a hormonal reaction, and it’s a huge and growing problem.

Here’s what happens…

  • When you’re stressed, your cortisol levels rise
  • Your digestion shuts down
  • Your body stops hearing the satiety hormone, Leptin
  • Sweet things don’t taste sweet anymore (so you crave more sugar!)
  • Your body becomes resistant to insulin, so you need more and more of this fat-storing hormone all the time

In a nutshell, stress turns you into a fat storing machine while simultaneously making it extremely difficult to lose weight.

There is no “one-size-fits-all” solution to stress, but Meridian Tapping is a safe and effective tool that has become increasingly popular for self treatment. And it’s something that although initially sceptical about, I’ve come to really experiencing truly transforming emotions through.

This week, there’s a film called, Lose the Stress, Lose the Weight that is available online for free during its world premiere launch. It’s all about Meridian Tapping for stress relief, hormonal balance and weight loss.
