3 Steps to Embrace Your Body Now

Embrace Your Body in 3 Steps, NOW

Ready to embrace your body, dump the hate and stop punishing it with endless diets and negative self-talk?

Recently I attended the first Toowoomba screening of the new documentary, EMBRACE by Taryn Brumfitt. Hundreds of women, men and children have attended in our region, but after watching, feeling inspired, shedding tears and finding hope… now what? It’s opened a huge pandoras box for so many women who are now wondering, well just HOW do I embrace my body? What do I do?

Our bodies are nobody else’s business, yet we constantly allow ourselves to be distracted by comparison, illusion and disempowerment.

If you want to embrace your body, you’ve got to start taking responsibility for it – and for what you’re thinking about it. Our relationship with our body, food, eating and the scales is always a reflection of the relationship we have with ourselves.

If you’re sick of struggling and wondering, Well just HOW am I supposed to love, accept and embrace my body?, then these 3 motivational steps are for you!

Time to rewrite the way you think about yourself and your body.

Here are 3 great steps to start embracing your body now and learning to love what is yours.

3-ways-to-embrace-your-body

1. STOP COMPARING your body

The girl in the magazine doesn’t even look like the girl in the magazine – so why should you? Just think for a moment about the countless hours and energy you pour into comparing your body with unrealistic standards… How exhausting is that? What would you rather be doing with your precious time? How much fun and pleasure are you preventing yourself from enjoying because of your fear you fall short?

Manipulation of society’s version of beauty isn’t real. Instead of striving for ‘perfection’ – whatever that is – choose to see your body as it is now. No it may not be ‘perfect’ but it’s beautifully real in all its’ imperfections. You can waste time denying what your body looks like, or you can stop wasting time comparing it in favour of embracing it and choosing to live your life regardless.

Move it, nourish it with good food, rest it, stretch it, play with it.. and learn to see the beauty and positivity of your own body. If you focus on taking care of your own body, you’ll stop worrying so much about other people’s bodies.

2. START APPRECIATING your body

You can beat it up all you like with your harsh words and feelings of contempt, but the fact is your body is ALWAYS striving to keep you alive. Your body is working 24/7 to breathe, digest, balance, recalibrate, secrete, monitor, think, remind, excrete and protect you.

Get over yourself being so high and mighty about what a disappointment your body is because it won’t conform to the ‘ideal’ weight, size or shape that you think it should be. If your body could use words, it would probably tell you to pull your head in and stop being so ungrateful. It only wants to be your friend and love you with everything its’ got. What are you doing for your body in return?

How about appreciating the value of what your amazing body can do for you. It can, and will, do more for you when you start appreciating it and making friends with it. It’s patiently waiting for you to meet it in the middle of reality and dreams. Try it.

3. OWN your body

Your body is yours and the only one you have. It’s nobody else’s business what it looks like, what it weighs, the size of it, how you dress your shape… it’s no-one else’s business but yours. So own it. Replace comparing with appreciating your incredibly brilliant, functioning body for everything it does – out of love – to keep you alive. Make choices out of love and respect for your body, not fear or hate.

Express your personality, creativity, femininity, masculinity, purpose and passion in the way you dress, do your hair, move your curves, pucker your lips and hold your posture. Raise how you FEEL in your body by stepping fully into it with every breath, thought, intention and movement. Claim ownership of what’s yours and be proud of this magnificent temple that honours and loves you in this lifetime by giving it the respect it deserves.

When you prioritise your own health and needs, you’ll start to be rewarded by a body that thrives from the inside out… because when you start focusing positive energy and healthy attention towards yourself, you will heal your most important relationship. Your body can then work with you as you spend more time being at peace within yourself. Relationships are funny like that…

It’s been on my agenda for quite some time to facilitate a group coaching intensive program focusing on embracing your body, building body confidence and healing body image issues. I’ll finally be bringing it to the Darling Downs in early 2017.

  1. This is a really great reminder to not take what your body does do for you for granted. It can be hard to remember that although you don’t look like the perfect ideal woman (according to society), you still have an amazing body that does amazing things for you every day!
